World Slasher Cup 2022 elimination round begins

The two-cock elimination round of the world’s most prestigious and long-standing cockfighting event, the World Slasher Cup, happens today, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Entries from both local and foreign cockfighters are expected to battle it out to claim the title of this year’s World Slasher Cup Invitational 9-Cock Derby scheduled from March 21-28.

Dong Lamoste, WSC Derby Office head and Smart Araneta Coliseum’s pit manager, is inviting once again all cockfighting enthusiasts to witness the action live at the Big Dome.

“To all our sabong friends, we are inviting you to come on Monday, the first day of our WSC. Hope to see you there,” Lamoste said.

“Don’t forget to bring your vaccination card, that is one of our requirements,” he added.

The two-cock elimination round is scheduled on March 21 to March 22, while the three-cock semi-finals will happen on March 23 and 24. This year’s WSC will have a break from March 25 to 26 before the four-cock pre-finals on March 27 and grand finals on March 28.

Competing in this year’s event are foreign cockers like Johnny Moore of Tennessee, USA, Greg Berin of Australia, and Paul Romias and the Wapatu Boyz of Hawaii, USA. Local participants like cocking legend Nene Araneta, Ito Ynares, Patrick Antonio, Claude Bautista, Khulit Alcala, Iking Araneta, Eddie Boy Cheng, and many others are also expected to bring their best winged warriors.

This year’s WSC is made possible by Thunderbird, Emperador, Petron, Asiawide Negrense Construction Corporation, Tempo, and Pilipino Mirror.
