World Slasher Cup: Round 3 today

Round three of the 2018 World Slasher Cup Invitational 9-Cock Derby gets underway at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum today, Wednesday, Jan. 31, bannered by 100 new participants.

A jam-packed crowd of about 5,000 aficionados witnessed the grand opening on Monday that lasted until early the following morning, according to sources.

Thousands of cockfight aficionados trooped to the Big Dome to witness gamefowl fury in hundreds of exciting fights on Day 1 alone

Supported by Excellence Poultry & Livestock Specialists and PitGames Media Inc. of CEO Manny Berbano, the derby will run until Feb. 7.

Although outnumbered, the foreigners put up an excellent fight, led by Ferdie Patam of California who scored four wins in four fights for his two entries (California Dreamers 1 and 2).

Craig Miller and John Rawlins of Wisconsin (Philbilies LSU), Butch Cambra of Hawaii (Bloodline Onipa NM Kanlaon), and Fil-Am Rene Medina (Arayat 2) tallied two wins each.

Veteran Biboy Enriquez, part of Araneta’s Pintakasi of Champions since the 1960s, led the locals with two victories.

Other two pointers: cockfight idol and Rep. Patrick Antonio and Anthony Marasigan (two entries each), Jojo Alcovendaz, Boy Gamilla, Rep. Ping Amante, Jun Mendoza, Tony Marfori, Rikki Reyes, Jimmy Junsay, lawyer Edgar Santos, Mayor Ador Pleyto, Frank Berin/Mayor Francis Espiritu, Danny Ngan, James Uy/Lance dela Torre, Carlos Tumpalan and MRV entry.
