World Slasher Cup welcomes new champions

Brand new champions emerged victorious in the prestigious World Slasher Cup 9-cock derby held last week at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Out of over 200 entries of the best cockers here and abroad, only three came out on top of the 6 day competition often dubbed as “The Olympics of Sabong”.

Three entries proved the best in the competition after 53 thrilling fights from 6 in the evening all the way up to 2 in the morning. Edwin Tose and Daday Siochi (419 DS Solid North GF), Carlos Gayoso and Arnold Mendoza (Matandang Gasan 1), and May May (Batang San Juan) led the competition with 8-1 scores each and were named champions this 2020. This is all their first World Slasher Cup title, a testament to the fact that in the world of Sabong anyone can win with the right team and the right chickens.

This year’s competition proved to be a clash of champions with top names of the sport all gunning it out for another trophy. Right behind the champs with 7-2 scores were previous winners and veterans of the WSC such as the likes Frank Berin, Aurelio Yee, Magno Lim, Gerry Escalona, Boyet Legaspi, Boy Montano, Cesar Mercado, Icha Perez, Ronald Del Rosario, and Romeng Edanio.

The event was made more special with the presence of Rayandra Alexander Seville, the daughter of the late American breeder Ray Alexander. This year’s World Slasher Cup is a tribute to her father and she was given a trophy of appreciation for everything that her father has done for the cock fighting community.

Sabong-enthusiasts can look forward to another week of only the best and most legitimate cock fighting matches in the world this at World Slasher Cup 2 in May 2020 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
