The “2018 World Slasher Cup Invitational 9-Cock Derby at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, currently the hottest topic among cockfight aficionados nationwide, drew the eliminations to a close yesterday with about 300 entries.
Action resumes today, Thursday, Feb. 1 in the semi-final round supported by Excellence Poultry & Livestock Specialists and PitGames Media Inc. of CEO Manny Berbano, who scored two wins in last Tuesday’s 2-cock elims.
The champion/s will be known on Feb. 7.
Early favorite among the foreign contingent is 2006 WSC champ Ferdie Patam of California, whose two entries (California Dreamers 1 and 2) tallied two wins each.
Patam will again field the shifty Cowan Roundheads and bullstag hennies, a winning line he developed for the last 11 years.
Unbeaten Craig Miller and John Rawlins of Wisconsin (Philbilies LSU),
Butch Cambra of Hawaii (Bloodline Onipa NM Kanlaon) and Fil-Am Rene Medina (Arayat 2) join the fray today.
Last year’s back-to-back champion Frank Berin leads the locals, together with Excellence’s Biboy Enriquez, Joey Melendres of Australia, Anthony Marasigan, cockfight idol Rep. Patrick Antonio, Carlos Tumpalan, Rikki Reyes, James Uy, Jojo Alcovendas, and Boy Gamilla, among others.
